As per the SumoMemes reddit user Dresdenapollo:
Midorifuji has been doing very well so far the November 2023 tournament.
Midorifuji finished off Takayasu with a kotenage today, extremely impressive. But one of his most common moves is katasukashi.
This is SUPER UNUSUAL.
As you can see from the above.
Almost a quarter of Midorifuji’s wins comes from katasukashi, the under-shoulder swing down, where that’s the winning move in fewer than 1% of bouts.
A question of (supposed) size
This is hardly surprising given that Midorifuji is one of the smallest rikishi out there.
Definitely in terms of weight.
As to height… well, I don’t want to dig up how skeptical I am of the supposed official height.
Again.
(No, there’s no way Midorifuji is taller than Tobizaru)
Midorifuji’s rank and weight Jan 2022 - Nov 2023
Midorifuji has kept within 3 kilograms of weight, more or less, in the last two years.
His ranking has jumped up quite a lot, but I think part of that relates to others’ doing poorly as well.
He has also really worked that katasukashi.
Measuring uniqueness (again)
Going back to measuring uniqueness, as explained in the Ura post, here are the new measures:
Midorifuji: 21.8%
Tobizaru: 13.7%
Ura: 13.1%
Ideally, of course, I’ll look at the win percentages as well. Eventually.
